The page break from hell

H

Henri Arsenault

Sometimes when I paste a paragraph from an older word document, an
unwanted page break appears in the new document after the pasted text. I
try to get rid of it by the methods described in the help (go to normal
mode and delete the end of page marker), but the marker cannot be
selected nor deleted. Using the paragraph format suggestion (deselect
all boxes) doesn't work either, nor setting the format to "continuous".

If I select lines before and after the page break, when I delete the
page break just moves a bit lower in the document. Isn't there any way
to get rid of this page break - it has happened to me a number of times.
The only solution I found was to delete text until the page break was at
the end of a page...

I have vague memories of this issue coming up before but nothing concrete.
Until someone comes along with a better idea, at least see if document
corruption is the cause. Turn on the Show/Hide formatting tool and copy all
but the very last paragraph mark in the document and pasting into a blank
new document. Any help?

I've seen this as well. The only solution I've found is to first paste
the text into a TextEdit doc, and then recopy it to the Word doc. If
that doesn't work, I use a TextSOAP religiously, which allows me to
strip every hidden formatting junk out of any text. That's never failed
to work.
