the path specified for the file pst is not valid

I work at a technical college and we have an Exchange 2007 server for staff
and we set up their outlook.pst files to save email to the H:\ network drive
in a folder called Outlook. Periodically Outlook 2003/2007 will show this
error:

the path specified for the H:\Outlook\Outlook.pst is not valid.

While the H: drive is still accessible under the My Computer icon and the
network is up and running, this error appears. I've told users to close out
of Outlook and reopen it and the error will go away. Is there a more
permanent fix for this? Can this be fixed?

MS does not support the use of a pst over a network. - for reasons you
experience, amongst others.
Locate your users pst on the local machine, you can backup to a network
location.
