Question
I am having this issue only in Word 2003. When I go to print, the program
takes a while, then the message "The printer has not responded, but Microsoft
Office can try to ..... "
The default printer does not show up in the print window.

~~
I have uninstalled word, reinstalled word, deleted the print drive,
reinstalled the print driver, check to make sure Zonealarm pro was not
blocking the word program, I have run a "sfc" to check all the hidden XP Pro
hidden files.

Does any one have any thoughts or solutions.

Thanks

Bill

Are you able to send a test print to the printer (from Printers and Faxes
dialog in Windows - not from Word)?

If the printer doesn't show up in the Word Print dialog, Word cannot print
to it. The printer must be installed and set as the DEFAULT windows printer.

Terry,

Thanks for your reply.

Yes the printer is set as the default printer. I can print a test page.
I can print from Excel, and other programs. It is only Word where this
occurs.

I have uninstalled print drivers and reinstalled, still same result.
Same with Word, uninstalled and reinstalled.

any other thoughts?

It is strange fault. I don't think it is a Word problem: Word doesn't see
the printer which is why it cannot print. But quite why I am not sure. Has
Word ever printed successfully to this printer? Is it locally connected (USB
or parallel port) or is it networked? What type of printer, what OS are you
running?

erry,

Yes, it has. THis occurred after doing a OS reinstallation. XP Pro is the
O/S,

it is a USB port, Dell 3000 cn laser.

It is weird. As stated I can print for Excel, and other programs. Yes, you
are correct, Word does not see the printer.

Thanks again.

PS when I search Office forums, the error is listed, but no solutions.

Seeing the printer is extremely important for Word as it interrogates the
printer driver for printer parameters in order to lay out pages correctly.

But now I see it is a Dell 3000 CN laser, I know that it is badly bugged and
doesn't work with Word/Vista. I suggest going to the Dell support site and
see if they have an updated driver or at least a work around for the bug.
