"The printer has not yet responded, ..."

Hi,
I'm getting this problem in word 2003 with XP SP2 with a Dell 1710n
installed on the LAN.

I rolled back to pre-SP2 and the pb disappeared.
Re-updated every thing and now the pb is back.

Two other users connected to same printer ... no problem.

Any ideas, please.

Calm down before you trigger a coronary!

Word slow opening is usually down to 3 main problems:

Corrupt or incompatible printer driver
Corrupt normal.dot
Incompatible third party add-in (template, macro or COM add-in)

What happens when you start Word in Safe Mode? From Start, Run type in

winword /a

and press enter. Does it start normally now?

(Considering the hassle, I'm prety calm, Yep! I'm running in safe mode too.)

I am stuck in the exact same problem: Dell 1710n network printer. Same user
connected to another PC can print without problems. I have tried "winword
/r", "winword /a"..the issue persists.
Any other suggestions?

The printer driver MUST be installed locally.

To add to this: it does seem to be a Dell printer driver problem. You are
