the product key is invalid. what's next?

I bought Windows student home program and when I have to type the key
product, does not recognized the information. The message is the product key
is invalid.

If you are absolutely positive you typed in the correct number that came
with the software, and you are positive you typed it correctly, contact the
vendor from where you purchased the program.

Both Tom and DL's responses are very valid. One further. A common mistake.
The key on the bottom or back of the computer is NOT the key to use for
Office. Office keys are either on the email you received with an online
purchase, on the back of the flip-out tray for Office 2007 retail products
or on a card provided by the computer manufacturer if you purchased an OEM
package directly from them. Both the flip-out tray and card stickers would
be orange in color.
