The Project Type field in PS 2007

Can't figure this one... When creating a new project, the 'built in' Project
Type field shows 'Project' as the type. When I create and save a proposal,
that same field shows 'Maintenance Project'. What??? I can't find anywhere
to change the values for the field, or to change the options for proposals or
projects. And, I can't create another Project Type field because this on
already exists.

To replicate: Add the Project Type field to a Project Center View. Save and
Publish a Project and then Save and Publish a new proposal (from PWA).

Anyone???

hi David,

Not sure if I am right, but I would assume that this is an internal custom
field that displays if it is a Project, Proposal or Activity or Program (
maintenance project). I would assume that you can use this field to group by
these types, but you cant change the value of the fields. It is like "Active
Risks" and "active Issues" fields. These are also fields that you can display
but not amend.
Hope this helps

Thanks Marc, I figured it was an internal field, but I still don't know why
it displays 'maintenance project' as the type when all I did was create a new
proposal. It would be fine if it displayed proposal, or activity project and
that would be good in Project Center to separate those types. It is
interesting that the Help text discusses 'Operations Work' in the Proposal
section, but it seems that has been replaced by 'Ativities'. There are many
mistakes in the help text descriptions vs. what actually we see in the
product.

I will create my own Project Type field with values that I can select.
Thanks.

Yes, I noticed that too. Microsoft did quite a view name changes during which
I noticed during the beta testing. I guess not everything was cleaned up. I
remember during the Project Server Conference in January last year, Proposals
and Activities was still refered to as "light projects". I guess that is
where the strange naming convention comes from in the custom fields.

Is somehow typical if you start development before you actually know the
naming convestion :)
