The server administration programs and the server extensions on the web server are not compatible

I've installed Front Page extensions on a Red Hat box.

Everything is working fine apart from when I try to change the permissions
via Tools>Server>Permissions.

When adding a new user I get the error:

The server administration programs and the server extensions on the web
server are not compatible. The administration program is too old to use with
this server.

I've Googled the error and it looks as if it's an issue with SharePoint,
however, I don't have SharePoint (knowingly) installed.

I'm a bit of a novis with Unix so I'd be grateful for any pointers.

Richard,
FP used to have a great page for talking about administration for
UNIX but I can't find it. I'm still trying. The FP extensions for UNIX are
handled by a company called Ready to Run software. They have updates and
fixes for the UNIX extensions and may have something in their forum. Check
out http://www.rtr.com/fpsupport/

I'll continue to try to locate the administration guide as I have
little experience with UNIX/Linux.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the info Mark

I think I found the cure!

There is an posting at http://forum.ensim.com/printthread.php?t=13913 that
contains the following:
thank you for pointing me to the _vti_pvt/service.cnf file. For the domains
that generated the errors, this file was >zero sized. I entered in each of
them the following minimal configuration, and my errors disappeared as
well.
vti_encoding:SR|utf8-nl
vti_webservertype:SR|apache-2.0
vti_extenderversion:SR|5.0.2.2634

My service.cnf file was quite large so I renamed it and created a new one
with just the above three lines in. All, so far, is now well!
