If the plans are a full page, and you have scanned the whole page without
cropping, then here's what's likely happening:
1. When you insert the graphic into Word, it is (by default) inserted In
Line With Text, so it is constrained by the document margins and
consequently is less than the full page size.
2. If you double-click on the graphic to get the Format Picture dialog and
look at the size tab, you'll probably see that the size is reported as less
than 100%.
3. If you change the size to 100%, the graphic will be larger, but it will
still be aligned flush left at the left margin and will run off the page on
the right side (and the same with the top and bottom).
4. Instead, click on the graphic to display the Picture toolbar.
5. On the toolbar, click on the Text Wrapping button to display the menu.
6. From the menu, choose Behind Text or In Front of Text (your graphic will
be anchored to the now empty paragraph it was previously in).
7. Now resize it to 100% and center it horizontally and vertically.
8. How much of it will print will depend on your printer driver, but
assuming that the original plans had some margin, you should be okay.
9. If there was other text on the page, it will be behind or in front of
your graphic; you'll need to insert page breaks to force that text to the
preceding/following page(s).
