"The specified string is not in the form required for an e-mailaddress"-Outlook/Exchange implication

Hey, we just switched over to Exchange/Outlook and as the
Administrator I am able to insert resources into the Enterprise
Resource Pool in Project Server 2007 from our address book. I pulled
in the group for our entire department which expanded to all the
individual employees.

After the individual people were expanded in the worksheet, I noticed
that the value in the email address is the display name (e.g., "Novak,
Andy") instead of the "hard-coded" (e-mail address removed).

Several folks have said, oh that's fine Project Server will resolve
the email address, but when I publish a project, there is an error in
the queue with the above message ("The specified string is not in the
form required for an e-mail address").

When I manually go in and change the email address to
"(e-mail address removed)", the email notification works just great.

Is there something else I need to do in order for the Exhange/Outlook
display name to resolve or are you just supposed to put in the "hard-
coded" email address in Project Server?

Thanks!

It sounds like it has more to do with how your company has set up its
exchange server data, not sure there is anything you can do on your end to
resolve this other than manually fixing the email addresses if you choose to
continue to import them from outlook/exchange.

Have you considered other approaches to importing your resources, like AD
import or AD synchronization if you have AD?

Well, I can't bring in resources from AD because the display name is
in "Last, First" format and the comma will not work.

I can get around that from a client standpoint by changing the
official "list separator" character to a semi-colon, but in the end,
Project Server will not accept a special character of any type in the
Resource Name.
