"The system cannot find the file specified"

Bhavin

When trying to open excel attachment in outlook, I am getting the error "The
system cannot find the file specified". I have Office 2007 and thus previous
suggestion of looking for Tools > Options > General Tab is not available. Can
someone suggest a work around for Excel 2007?

Thanks,
Bhavin

Try clearing the Outlook Secure Temp folder.

I cleared the Outlook Temp Folder but it's still the same issue. The same
issue occurs when I try to open excel through Windows Explorer (or whatever
it is called in VISTA).

This ought to fix the issue:

1. Close the message.
2. Start Excel.
3. Click the Microsoft Office Button, click Options, and then click Advanced.
4. Under the General tab, click to clear the Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) option, and then click OK.
5. Exit Excel.
Now you can double-click the attachment to open it in Excel, and you can save it to your hard disk, and then double-click the file to open it.

Fix "WHAT" issue? Please quote the post you are replying to, reply to the
thread and do not change the subject line.

Thank you.

Hi, I have the same problem when trying to open Word files. Did you find a
solution to your problem?

If you're having problems with Word, perhaps you should be asking in a Word
newsgroup.

If you mean you're having problems opening a Word attachment from within
Outlook, state the exact text of the error message(s) and state as well
whether or not you cleared the Outlook Secure Temp folder. Include your
Outlook version and account type as well.

I'm new to newsgroups, so bear with me! I'm having trouble opening Word
files in Outlook - the error message is: "The system cannot find the fil
specified". I'm using Office 2007. I don't know how to clear the Outlook
secure temp folder?
Hope you can help.

But the message you quoted when you posted contained a link to how to do
that. Didn't you read the message you were quoting?

Of course I read the message I was quoting! I tried to apply the suggested
fix, but in Word, the "Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data
Exchange (DDE)" isn't an option.

Huh? No where on the web site I mentioned does "DDE" appear.

Thank you! This fixed the problem I was having when opening Excel
attachments in Outlook or trying to open Excel Files from within Explorer.

I'm experiencing something similar with Ourlook 2003 on XP. In my case all
attachements cannot be opened.

I have tried all the common suggestions (cleaning out the secure folder,
etc.) and nothing works.

When I click on the attachment, the file appears in the secure folder and
stays there until I close the email. In Explorer, I can click and open the
file staged in the secure folder. Thus the problem seems to be that either
XP has forgotten where to look for these staged files or Outlook is not
telling XP where to find the file.

I'm looking for any leads as this is significantly disrupting my work.
Having used Outlook 2003 since it was first available, this sudden disability
is frustrating.
