The transition won't work

I have a 2003 PPT presentation where the kids choose to see or to hear an
animal on a slide and that brings them to the slide representing what they
chose. For example, if the child clicks on "see" then "dog", she will go to a
slide where she sees a dog. If she clicks on "hear" then "lion", she will go
to a blank slide where she hears a lion. When she clicks on the slide she has
been brought to, she goes back to the slide where she can choose again. In
fact, the link is to a blank slide with a 00:00 transition to the next slide
which is the slide where she can choose. I did it this way because there are
some animations on the "choose slide" and this way it is activated again.

It works great with PPT 2003. But in the classrooms, I use the PPV because
they don't have PPT 2003. When I choose to see an animal, there is never any
problem. When I choose to hear an animal, there is no problem if I listen to
the sound until the end. When I choose to hear an animal and click to return
before the sound is finished playing, it also works. But after my next
choice, when I click to return, I am stuck at the blank transition slide
which doen't advanced to the next automatically.

Hope my explanation is clear.

Be sure your help will be appreciated.

Thank you for your answer John,

I tried to do a custom show with the "choose slide", the slide that I'm not
always able to come back to. But when I do that, the links of the "choose
slide" don't work from the custom show since the other slides are not on the
custom show...

Aha! You've done your homework. Good job!

This is very strange. I can't think of a reason it should stall like this in
the Viewer. If the link didn't respond at all, that would be one thing
(There's an issue that sometimes occurs with the Viewer where links attached
to no-line/no-fill objects don't work.), but to get to the blank slide and
then just stop? Hmmmmm.

This will sound weird, but try downloading and installing the Viewer again.
I swear, I think there have been a couple of undocumented minor changes to
the Viewer over the years that have taken care of a couple of oddball issues
like this.
Hope my explanation is clear.

It was very clear. Thank you.

OK, now that I think about it, the suggestion of John will work if I make
custom shows with every slides I have. This will be long because I will have
to redo all the links in my "choose slide" (I have 25 animals and two
possibilities for each : "see" or "hear") but I think it will work.

Thanks to John and Echo S for there answers.

OK, I tried John's solution. I made a custom show with my "choose slide" and
several other custom shows with each of the slides. And every slide show has
a transparent button across all the slide that links to the "choose slide".
It works OK but when I press the finish button on my "choose slide" I see all
of the custom shows of the"choose slide" I used during the activity
(presentation).

It's all right but I would have like the kids to use it by themself and it
makes it a bit complicated to finish (you have to press "esc" forever).
