Seems like I no longer have handwriting recognition , text to speech or
speech recognition when I updated Office XP with 2007, but I have spent the
whole day looking to add text to speech to my language bar like the good ol
day with no success so what are the possible solutions to get any form of
text to speech to work with word 2007?

Hi C.H.,

Are you looking for Speech to Text (dictation) or Text to Speech (read back)

Text to speech is still an Excel feature but is not on the Ribbon in Excel 2007. You can add it to the Quick Access Toolbar in
Excel by using

Office Button[File]=>Excel Options=>Customization

In the customization dialog select the category for
'Commands not on the ribbon'
and 'Add' to the Quick Access Toolbar the Five text commands
'Speak Cells'
'Stop Speaking Cells'
'Speak Cells by Column,
'Speak Cells by Row'
'Speak Cells on Enter'

Select a range of cells in your spreadsheet and it click on 'Speak Cells'.

Bob,

Thank you so much! This is a great start, I now have Text to Speech
(read back) in Excel, but how do I get this feature in Word 2007 or on
the XP Pro Language Bar again like it was when I had Office XP.

It REALLY helps me to catch grammatical errors and flow on larger docs
when the program reads back the text. The new Office layout is
refreshing.

Thanks Again,
Anthony

Hi Andrew,

The MS Office Speech input/dictation feature is no longer an Office team service.

The Microsoft Windows and Speech folks will be providing any speech recognition/dictation support for Windows XP and Windows Vista.
That team is planning on broadening the scope beyond just MS Office and they put the new MS Office Speech Server product into public
beta in May. http://microsoft.com/speech

At present, some of us are doing a bit of head scratching to see if we can determine why it seems to stay available for some folks
on Windows XP and not others when they upgrade Office XP or Office 2003 to Office 2007 and seeing what the options are for enabling
Windows XP+MS Speech in Office 2007 from a Windows Perspective.

Text to Speech Solution with third party application:

1. Install TextAloud, http://www.nextup.com/TextAloud/index.html.
2. Create Hotkeys (keyboard shortcuts) in the Options for
a. Text Speak
b. Stop Speaking
3. Open Word Doc
4. Highlight the text and press Hotkeys to start and stop read back

TextAloud could be more simple, but hey it works and in the end that
all that matters to me.
