the vertical contacts index show Russian characters instead of Latin

The vertical right side index of contact cards shows suddenly Russia
characters instead of Latin. Something happened and I would like t
switch back to Latin characters. I do not speak Russian and I canno
use the index anymore to access a card. Do you have any idea how t
proceed
