The waving computer in Office X?

How do I get rid of this "thing"? I know there must be a preference,
but darned if I can figure out which one. (probably one of the easiest
questions on the NG)

Hi Stephen,

Click on the "thing" (the box's name is "max.").

In the box type (without quotation marks), "kill the office assistant" then
click search.

Click on the topic, "Hide, show, or turn off the Office Assistant" and read
the part "Turn on or off the Office Assistant"
