Hi everyone,

I was configuring my Calendar options and found the "When sending meeting
requests over the Internet, use iCalendar format" checkbox is unchecked and
greyed-out. Does anyone know if there is any way to un-greyed-out it? I
have Outlook 2003 and it was installed in "Corporate Mode".

Since Outlook 2003 has no "corporate mode," I assume you mean that you're using Exchange as your mail server. Exchange 2000/2003 should handle the conversion of meeting requests to iCalendar for Internet recipients, so there's no need for that option in your configuration.

How about Outlook 2000? We still have some users who are still using it.

conversion of meeting requests to iCalendar for Internet recipients, so
there's no need for that option in your configuration.

Sorry, but I don't even remember if Outlook 2000 has such a setting. If it does, I'd expect the same behavior.

Do you know if Exchange 5.5 handles the conversion? I know we're behind the
times, but our upgrade isn't for a while yet. We use Exchange 5.5 and
Outlook XP and have the same greyed out issue and am told the conversion
isn't happening.

I know we could handle it by saving it as an ics file and have them import
it, but I can hear the complaints in my head already!

When some of us MVPs tested this a year or two ago, I believe we learned that Exchange 5.5 -- which is really really old at this point -- doesn't perform that conversion.

As an experiment, you might try adding a POP or IMAP account. That should enable the "send as iCalendar option." What I'm not sure of is whether checking that option will generate an iCal meeting request that gets through Exchange 5.5. But I no longer have a server in that version to test against. Let us know what you find out!
