Theme buttons not showing on page

N

Niagara Mouse

I am using FrontPage 2003 with Win XP SP2. I had everything working great
with my website, then while making modifications to what link bars would show
on my home page, something went wrong, I don't know how, but it lost the
banner at the top and made text at the bottom so tiny it was illegible. It
would not let me add the page banner back, so I had to recreate my home page.
The home page is fine now, but on my other pages, the vertical navigation
buttons do not show, they appear only as text. In shared borders properties I
have selected 'include navigation buttons'. The buttons are visible in the
actual theme and when I select modify it previews the buttons however, back
in the page it is still text only. I have tried applying the theme to another
website and the buttons come up okay. I also deleted all my temp files -
didn't help.

My problem may have started when at some point during my modifications it
asked me if I wanted to replace 'something' (can't remember what that
something was) with the 'newer' version in the file, the question seemed
weird so I chose 'NO" . As a result, it may be relating back to part of the
original theme which I modified and saved as mine. Can someone tell me how
to get my buttons to show. Thanks in advance. Niagara Mouse

Hi Stefan,
I have not uploaded it yet, it is still in the creation stage and I was
getting ready to upload it when this problem occurred.

Me Again, I decided to start from scratch and re-create my website, so far it
is working out fine. I have another question. I have my home page and 7 child
pages, two of those child pages have a child page each.
1. I want the top link bar only on my home page to show with all the 7 child
pages. I do not want the left link bar on the home page.
2. On the child pages I want the link bar at the top to show all pages of
the same level (i.e. the other child pages) plus the home page.
3. I want the child pages to have a lift link bar with their child pages.
How do I do that? Every time I change the top link bar for the child pages
it changes it on the home page too.

You can't have different nav at the top if you are using Shared borders where you have parent pages
You can have nav bar on the left for child pages only

Remove the top shared border from the Home Page and add a nav bar there
set to show Children Under Home.
Open the Home page, then Format->Shared Borders, select "This Page Only"
and clear the top border box. Do not make this the default for the
whole site.

The navigation bar in Shared borders (on all other pages) can be set to
show Same Level, with a second bar showing Child pages - this will be
blank for those pages with no children.

Thanks Ronx for your suggestions I will give them a try. Clearing the shared
border on the home page let to my initial problem which I have eliminated but
starting over again, I hope I do not create the same problem. It is nice to
have somewhere to come to to get answers.
