Darn good question - I am right in the middle of producing a template
and book for you at the moment. There is no "Word for Academics" book
you can run out and buy, nor too many websites that address the
relevant problems from that angle. Every tertiary institution I have
ever heard of has a submission style guide yet very little information
is given to support this.

However, to get you started, use this website:

Topics you must know about include, but are not limited to: Heading
numbering, styles, seq fields, page numbering, footnotes and endnotes.

There is no "Word for Academics" book

Wait a minute. Being German, I had some trouble assigning meaning to
the phrase "theme paper". If I get things right, a theme paper falls
into the same category with a diploma thesis or dissertation regarding
the formal requirements. There must be books like "Scientific writing
with Word" like we have them in German. Would be a good start, though.
