Themed controls causes command buttons to vanish

Hello!

Anyone seen this? I have a form with a number of command buttons that just
vanish when "Themed Controls" is checked. They show up again if Themed
Controls is unchecked. The box that I had drawn around the controls is
missing as well. If I click where the controls *should* be, they appear, but
vanish again if I click elsewhere...

I've imported this form into a new MDB, from another MDB. In the earlier MDB
the controls retain the older Access "square" look.

Using Access 2003, Windows XP Media Centre.

Hi Fred.

Haven't seen this, but my first thought is that it might be to do with the
video driver. To test that idea, right-click the Windows desktop and choose
Properties | Settings | Advanced | Troubleshoot. Drag the Hardware
Acceleration slider to None.

Hello Allen!

Well, that didn't do it, but, now that you mention it, it does seem that it
might be a video problem. I think I'll try again tomorrow at work on a
couple of different computers and see if I can reproduce the issue on
another computer. If I can, then that might eliminate the video being the
issue.

machine with Win XP on as well as the Media Centre one?

More testing reveals:

Command buttons disappear on a different computer running Windows XP as
well. Less likelihood of video issue/OS issue...

Creating a new form from scratch I have no problem with control buttons
vanishing. Even when I switch back and forth from using Themed Controls.

I can import a new form created from scratch without a problem.

Problem crops up only when importing/using older forms. These forms were
originally created using Access 2000 and/or Access 2002, then converted to
Access 2003. Perhaps an issue? If I can find an older installation of Access
I might try creating a new form from scratch and then importing to see if
issue shows up.

Problem persists even when all code behind form is deleted and form property
"HasModule" is set to "No", and all data sources are removed.
Changing "ForeColour" property has no effect.
Properties for a visible button and a disappearing button are identical.
Compact and repair and Importing into blank database has no effect.

Hi Fred,

What happens if you open the old form in A2K3 design mode
and do some bring to front send to backing just to shuffle
things back and forth a bit then try running it? I'm
thinking that might ruffle the metadata a bit... <shrug>.

I'm more than a little interested in this since I hope to
have a couple of big apps to upversion for a client in due
course (i.e. if my quote wins <g>).

You get a gold star! That did it! I don't understand why, but it certainly
worked!

Now, I had to put the focus on each individual control and then bring it to
the front. That is still a pain; with a large application, you might have to
spend a lot of time making sure all the controls are visible! I suppose, of
course, a pro like yourself might be able to write some code to loop through
all the controls and set them to be brought to the front...
