"There are too many edits" Error

Hi Group,
I am working on a doc for quite a long time.
Today, when I tried to copy some text from a web page, MS word poped up
saying that "There are many edits in the document, the operation is
incomplete, save your work". I did that, tried again, no luck.
I unselected all grammar and spelling options, deleted normal.dot file,
reboot the pc and still no luck

Is there any other options to keep the doc in one file?

I am running MS Office 2003 on win xp, the harddisk has plenty of free space
