There is a paragraph symbol that keeps appearing, how do I delete

I was typing a paper. Suddenly a paragraph symbol appeas everywhere in the
paper. It keeps reappearing even when I close word and restart my computer.
when I press enter it appears one every line. when I press space bar I
get.......
why can't I get rid of it?

You may have toggled the para marks on. The sign is a backwards P on the
toolbar (top of screen just under menu commands). Try clicking that off.
