There is a problem with sending the command to the program [WORD]

My issue is with word MS office home and student 2007 on windows 7
release candidate running from a HP pavilion entertainment pc dv6000
(laptop - dv6113tx with 2GB of ram). All the other program formats are
fine to use (excel, pwr point, onenote).

I think it happened when I switched to "run programs in previous
versions of windows", as I'm running windows 7 RC. I found a temporary
work
around, in which you have to open the word program either from the
start menu,
taskbar or desktop and then go to the word circle button and open the
file
within word itself.

A real nusiance!

I did hope I could follow the same steps as what currier mentioned (in
thread link below) for excel, although the "ignore other applicatiosn
that use dynamic data
exchange (DDE)" is not listed when I've gone into "word options",
"Advanced"
then searched under the "general" section.

I imagine that you are trying to start Word by double clicking on a
document. What type of document is it?

The documents I'm attempting to open are office word documents, it
doesn't seem to matter whether they are saved as a 1997-2003
compatibility format or as 2007 format. You are correct, I'm double
clicking the word document.

Here is a more detailed overview of the issue:

If I attempt to open a word document from the computer or an external
device window, I receive an error message "There is a problem sending
the command to the program" which has the "ok" and "X" buttons. The
word program proceeds to open, albeit the document doesn't display. I
worked out the only way to open the document is by opening the
document directly within the word program, which opens perfectly,
however when I close the word program I am presented with two
different situations. One situation displays 3 window boxes (one after
another), the first window mentions word has stopped working, second
window mentions it is trying to recover the document and the third
window mentions "MS office word has stopped working. A problem caused
the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program
and notify you if a solution is available. Close program". When I
click "Close program", the word program closes.

The other situation is pretty much the same, except the third window
mentions "MS office word is restarting" and the word program opens
again, even though I wanted it closed. If I then close the word
program after it has restarted (automatically re-opened), then the
word program reopens again with a blank document and the first
situation occurs, but after I click "close program it remains closed.

Below are some further steps I've taken to resolve the issue.

I have gone into the office word program "Privacy options" within the
"trust center" and confirm "download a file periodically that helps
determine system problems" is checked. I've run the office diagnostics
several times, however nothing useful. Also, I have tried uninstalling
office home & student 2007 and re-installing it fresh, though issue
still persists. I even purchased office ultimate 2007 and installed
that, though issue still persists.

'There is one last thing which I'd already done, which was to install
the office 2007 service pack 2 made available recently, but I ran
system restore and reverted back to an earlier restore point and I
have just installed office 2007 SP2 again. Therefore I need to restart
the computer and will report back if the issue remains.

I'm having the exact same issue. Running Windows 7 Professional full release
64bit and Office 2003. Clicking a Word document causes exact same issue.

Any luck in a solution?

Have the same issue and was hoping to add to this thread so that we could
get an answer. Windows 7 and Office 2007. Only get the error message on MS
WORD and to answer the MS MVP's question (at least for me) Yes, i am double
clicking on a document, a word document, version 2007.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

Did anyone work out how to fix this? I have the same issue running Word 2007
in Windows 7. I can't open files directly from the desktop, but can open them
if I open word first and then open them within word. Also, whenever I open
Word it comes up with the box asking me if it's ok for the program to change
the hard disk. No worries with any of the other Office program. Have
reinstalled and tried the windows diagnostics with no luck.

I have the same problem with Office 2003 and Windows 7. So far the only
solution that I have found is to open word and then through word open the
word document you wish to edit and voila but this is not the ultimate
solution. However it will help you until someone else or Microsoft finds a
better solution. I hope this helps you a bit.

Kind regards

Manuel

I'm having the exact same problem as the rest of y'all. I've not had this
problem until this morning, after an automatic Windows Update that happened
while I was sleeping. How helpful.

My business revolves around Word files. Please help!

Bump - We see this only under specific conditions which we've had to code
around in our add-in; exact same use scenario.
