There is insufficient memory or disk space. Close extra windows and save your work...??

I'm running Windows 98 with Office 97. Checked my resources and over 50% of
the hard drive is free. No viruses and RAM resources are 85% free.

I get this error:
"There is insufficient memory or disk space. Close extra windows and save
your work."
The only option is to click OK.

This happens when I attempt File > Page Setup
also, Table > Insert Table
File > Save As

Another variation of the insufficient memory message is another "error" that
pops up when I attempt to Save As: "Word has insufficient memory. Do you
want to save Document1 as Rescued Document?"

Please help. I'm nearly bald from pulling my hair out from frustration. It's
aggravating!
