There is not enough memory or disk space to run word.

I

Itsshar

I can no longer open any of my Office programs. I have tried to
uninstall/reinstall and it hasn't fixed it. I have tried a system restore on
multiple dates and that hasn't fixed it.
I have checked:
* 1.4 GB of available memory
* I have looked into renaming Normal.dot template but can't find any files
under this name (looked in hidden files as well)
* I have attempted to run winword.exe /a (yielded same error response)
* Ran Microsoft Office Diagnostics (all steps were completed with no errors
found)
* I've looked in Windows Task Manager to see if other apps were running,
there wasn't.
* I've run chkdsk and that didn't help.

I am running Windows XP w/ service pack 3 installed and Microsoft Office
Home and Student 2007 with service pack 1 and I believe all the updates that
are available.

Since I purchased my computer through Dell I talked with them and they were
of little help. They ran tests, said everything was fine and just to
uninstall and reinstall and that if that didn't work it had to be a product
problem.
I have no idea how to fix this problem :( If anyone can help me I would
greatly appreciate it.

Your subject line says "There is not enough memory or disk space to run
word," but your message body doesn't refer to this at all. Are you receiving
this error message when you attempt to open Word?

What happens when you attempt to run PowerPoint or Excel?

Are you opening the applications from the Start menu in Windows, or are you
double-clicking a file to open the associated program? Or something else
(like double-clicking Winword.EXE, for example)?

Sorry.

When I try to open word it comes up " There is not enough memory or disk
space to run word". I have tried to open it from the icon on my desktop and
also from my start menu, and tried to run it by using winword.exe /a
I have also tried to open up word documents that I have saved in the past
and still get the same message.

When I try to open Excel it says
"Excel failed to start correctly last time. Starting Excel in Safe Mode will
help you correct or isolate a startup program in order to successfully start
the program. Some functionality may be disabled in this mode.
Do you want to start Excel in safe mode?"

When I click yes it says "Not enough memory to run Microsoft Office Excel.
Please close other applications and try again."

There are no applications running and have verified through Windows Task
Manager.
I have even tried to run programs by turning of Norton Anti Virus
temporarily and still same error message.

All Microsoft programs I try to open pop up with the same error message.

Hi Itsshar,

Try using Start=>Programs=>Accessories=>Disk Cleanup
to clear the temp files and from
Start=>Search recycle files found with a name search of
~$*.*;*.tmp

If you still get the same issue check in the System settings Advanced tab in Windows control panel to see if your Environment
variables are pointing to a valid location on your hard drive and that the partition has free space available (I'm assuming you're
working with documents on your hard drive rather than on removable drives).

I've scanned my disc, scanned with Mic Office diagnostic tool, scan fo
error and viruses
Negative..
I've deleted my temp files, uninstall some rarely-used programs, bu
still..
Windows task manager? Nothin's wrong with it I though..

by the way, I use Mic Win XP for OS in my BENQ R45 series
fyi, when I logged on with Guess account, that problems didnt occur..
It only occured when I logged as Administrator
But, since I cant install anything with Guess account (I want t
install Office) this problem's still there..

I've had the same problem for one of my clients as well:
Opening winword, excel, outlook, powerpnt, all give the same error:

*winword gives the error: "There is not enough memory or disk space t
run word 2007"
*excel attempts to start in safe mode, then gives the same error a
winword.
*outlook gives the error: "Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook.
Cannot initialize Microsoft Office shared utilities. Restart you
computer or reinstall Microsoft Office Outlook."

Steps taken so far:
*1.* Uninstalled and reinstalled Office (gives exact same results)
*2. *Went to run->Appwiz.cpl -> MS Office 2007 ->Change -> Add o
remove features ->right click -> "run from my computer". (Thi
supposedly works for some other users on other forums, but not for me)
*3. a.* When 2 failed me: Logged in as administrator, launched al
office programs: winword, excel, outlook, etc. Went t
regedit->HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office ->exported Office folder an
saved to C:.
*3. b.* Logged back in as user with issue, imported the registry fil
from 3. a. Still no effect.

This isn't necessarily a problem with hard disk space: If one of yo
uses "run as" (a separate administrator account) you'll notice th
software starts properly.

Hopefully (and I know this is an old thread) if it saves you fro
having to do a reformat, easier thing to do is delete the account
create a new one and migrate all the files to the new one. Something i
pooched with the current account's installer for MS Office.

If all that fails, get OpenOffice

How do you migrate the files? I created a new account but don't know
how to transfer all of the files and settings to the new account.

Thanks

Who are you talking to and about what?

Please note:
This is NOT a chat room and although you think you are posting to a forum
