Thesaurus problem Word2003- Installer Error 1605

E

Error1605

Hello,
When using the thesaurus, I get this error message the
first three times and then it works:
Microsoft Office Word can't open the thesaurus. Microsoft
Office Word cannot install the necessary files due to
Windows Installer Error 1605. This action is only valid
for products that are currently installed.

I looked in KB but no help, searched the internet and
this newsgroup unsuccessfully too. Its probably a
registry problem, any suggestions?
Thanks

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the Proofing Tools using Office setup.
Unfortunately the proofing tools appear to be omitted from the Detect and
Repair list of components.

Okay I tried it but it didn't work.
Please note that I uninstalled Works2000 and Word2000
from my machine before installing Office2003.
I looked around the Internet and found this article on
the USA Today website:
http://www.usatoday.com/tech/columnist/edwardbaig/2003-10-
14-baig_x.htm

It documents exactly the same problem I have been having.

How was the author's issue resolved?

I don't know how that issue was resolved. This is peer support only - not
direct communication with Microsoft. However since this is an installation
issue, you could get free phone support and relay the solution back to the
newsgroup.
