What version of Word are you using?
.
Word X for Mac service release 1 /// Microsoft Office X 10.1.5 /// Mac OS
Panther 10.3.3

I found that I could change default back to English (US) , but if I use Thes. or
Spchk. or I misspell a word language defaults back to Czech.

I bet your two problems are related...probably no grammar prefs b/c you
don't have proofing tools installed for Czech?

Try this: Go to Format | Style, select Normal in left column, and look at
the description. If it involves Czech, click Modify, use the Format menu in
the dialog to change the language, be sure to check "add to template" but
NOT "automatically update."

If it doesn't involve Czech, post back and let us know.

PS. Please reply on same thread w/o changing the subject.

-----Original Message-----That's only going to fix it for new documents created after you made that
change, but not in documents previously created.

For documents already created, you can do the same thing--Modify Normal
style to be English in each doc--OR do a select all, then go to Tools |
Language and manually apply English. The difference is manual formatting
vs. style-based formatting--if these are documents you will continue to edit
and work with, do the style-based change.
