Every time I activate my Thesaurus in Word 2003, I have to restart Word again. Everything freezes. Thanks to all who reply.

Is this for English language thesaurus? How are you activating the
Thesaurus: via menu, shortcut key or ...?

I activate it two ways... the first way, via Shift F7 and also by clicking the word and holding ALT down. And yes, it's English. Thanks.

Thanks.

<Please allow cross-posting to spelling NG to continue so that relevant MS
staff can see the problem>

So that's 3 ways then? Or does the menu not work? Does anything happen
before Word freezes - a task pane appears or a pop-up menu or dialog?

Do you have any Word add-ins installed?

When I activate one of the above shortcuts, it brings up the Thesaurus task pane, and simply refuses to move, hence it freezes

Not sure what the "add-ins" are, but I have installed from the CD, and would have done a typical installation
And again, not sure about the Cross-post bit. I copied over some of my original info. AND I know there is a better way - but when you don't know, then it's the long way. Thanks again.

The "first way" I listed was by menu, but (and it's still not obvious) you
don't appear to use that. The ALT method brings up the general Research pane
first rather than going to the thesaurus directly. Do you actually see any
results in the Research pane? If so, are they from the thesaurus, and how is
the thesaurus labelled?

Add-ins would be things like the toolbars/menus installed by Adobe Acrobat.
And again, not sure about the Cross-post bit.

It seems to be OK now: both NGs are listed.

If something doesn't make sense, it could be worse e.g.
