These things won't install!!!

I have successfully downloaded the recent Office Updates
from the Microsoft web site but when they try to install a
dialog box tells me they can't be installed. I have
turned off anti virus & firewalls and have the Office disk
in the drive. Yet, after 3 attempts all I have are the
downloaded files in some CAB file but no installation!
Any ideas?

I have had problems installing 3 Office Updates. The
second attempt got errors saying that they were downloaded
but could not be installed. Troubleshooting tips suggested
manually deleting files but did not give details. I went
to ProgramFile/OfficeUpdate/Cabs and deleted the two
folders. (The folders are in the Recycle Bin) I got two
Office Updates installed--if I can believe that Office
Updates is correctly determining that they were installed.
I cannot however install the Office Update pertaining to
the Word Perfect Converter and got some "Office Hotfix
Installer encountered a problem KB824938". Also I did turn
off my firewall and antivirus software. I clicked the
button to send the problem file to Microsoft so it is
beyond me now and in their hands!

Try solving the problem in this way:

1.- Turn off the antivus.
2.- It seems that the .cab file is hidden. So unhide the
file using explorer.
3.- Copy the whole content of the CD in a folder on C:/,
for instance C:/Office/
4.- Change the property of the .cab file, unmarking
hidden.
5.- Proceed to install, redirecting the Dialog Box to
this location.
6.- Erased the folder once you had made the updates.

It worked in my computer and I could make the updates
without any problem.

Success!!! Try setting your IE browser security options
to "low". Tools/Internet Options, Secutiy tab, Custom
Level button. When you hit "reset" take note of the
change in the security option selections. The
low/medium/high etc. designation may not change but the
actual security settings will. I don't think the
designation field actually does anything other than
select a list of defaults that are applied to the actual
controls listed above when you hit "reset". Don't forget
to reset your security level once you complete the
updates!
