thicket files

What are thicket files, and how do I get rid of them.

I checked the help menus in FP,-nothing
went to google and did a search there,
and I now have a better idea, but not quite sure......

I found 3 file folders on the server location, when I
logged in live.
I tried to delete them and they said they could not be
deleted that I had
to
go thru some special "thicket file" process.

It has something to do with office files, maybe Word,
and I bet it has
something to do with this other publishing warning that
keeps popping up.

Can I get rid of these? and how?

Please email me at (e-mail address removed)

Thicket files are files that are saved from an Office document using the
Save As Web Page option on the File menu. On Windows 2000 and Windows XP,
the files are saved in enhanced folders that are connected to the files.
For example, if you save a page as mypage.htm and it has graphics in it, you
will also have a folder called mypage_files. The mypage_files folder is
connected to the mypage.htm file. If you delete the mypage_files folder, it
will automatically delete the mypage.htm file and vice versa.

Hi Jim,

I thank you for writing that in terms I can understand!!
I have tried deleting the folder and it will not let me.
Should I go to those specific htm pages, edit them (what
am I looking for), or rebuild them totally from scratch?
Then will it allow me to delete the folder?

You can edit the file
Or delete the file and it should delete your associated folder
Make sure you have imported both the File and the associated folder into FP

PS you can also set Win XP to not manage them as pairs in Tools Folder Options View

You can edit the file

**have looked closely at the file, and am not sure what I
am looking for to edit out.
Or delete the file and it should delete your associated
folder. Make sure you have imported both the File and the
associated folder into FP
**assoc folder only appears on the "live" location, which
I rarely log onto live. Only to recalculate hyperlinks
occasionally. You are saying I need to import both file
and folder back to my C drive?
PS you can also set Win XP to not manage them as pairs
in Tools Folder Options View

**I'm running this off my Win2000 system at this time.
In FP, I'm not finding this "pairs" setting under
tools/options/view. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Re-Import the file and associated folder into FP (on your local version) or change your windows to not handle them as pairs

| correction:
|
| Using Windows Explorer and looking at my C Drive, the
| thicket file folders are there. It is only in FP that
| they do not appear.

Thanks everyone for the help.
I found the thicket files on my local drive, when I viewed my web through
explorer. Just like you said.
I deleted the thicket files, and the associated htm pages (3) were also
deleted. Just like you said, too.
Today I have reconstructed the pages, leaving off the table that I did in
excel, that I'm sure was the problem.
Reposted the web, and the thicket files are all gone.

Thank You.

One more detail. I've tried to find where to "change your windows to not
handle them as pairs".
One Win2000, where is that?
