Thinking of Outlook Express to MS Outlook

T

Todaro, Stephen

Dear All,

I am currently using Outlook Express but am having some difficulties. So I
am thinking about exporting everything into MS Outlook and using MS Outlook
from now on but first I would like to know whether it would be worth doing
this.

I require an email client that can store several thousand messages in my
inbox and sent items. My current problem with Outlook Express is that
everytime I shut down the program I get a message telling me to compact my
emails. I have no problem doing this and although I follow all instructions
and guidelines (e.g. by never interrupting the process) I still frequently
lose hundreds of emails. I now click "cancel" everytime this message comes
up and there seems no way to disable it.

Essentially, I want to know if I would have this problem with MS Outlook?
Would/is compacting even necessary?

Thank you for your advice.

Best wishes.

Each folder in Outlook can contain at least 65K items.

Outlook shouldn't have this problem, but then neither will Thunderbird or
Eudora. My personal opinion is that if you don't require the features of
Outlook, i.e., you need only email, then you should use something other than
Outlook. Outlook isn't cheap, but Firefox is.

And if the OP needs an integrated Calendar and Tasks application, then the
current version of Lightning, which installs into Thunderbird is, IMHO, very
nearly as good in terms of functionality as Outlook....

You export mesgs to Outlook - OL has to be configured on the same PC.
You dont *need* to keep several K's of msgs in your Inbox/Outbox
You usually create folders within the OL Personal folders tree and move msgs
to the relevent folder.
You also make use of the Archive options, An Archive being just another set
of Personal Folders, can remain open in OL, and its contents viewed
Primarily you need to organise you msgs appropriately

And furthermore, in Outlook you can have the replies in the same folder
rather than the Sent Items when the message you are replying to is in a
folder other than the Inbox. Keeps things neat and tidy...
