This command is not available because the document is locked for edit

I was just on my pc using Microsoft Word. When we
switched to log on as another user, we couldn't get on.
Then when we tried to open all Word Documents we received
the message that I place in the subject line" This
command is not available because the document is locked
for edit." Is there anyway to "unlock" so that I can
utilize Word?
