This is an Absolutely Maddening Mystery to me:

I can add single buttons to standard tool bars that remain in view and anchored to the main GUI at the top of the word window save when in Full Screen mode (Case in point - i added the button to enter full screen mode to the very end of the formatting tool bar that includes alignment and font choices but when i enable tool bars like the drawing tool bars and background color tool bars they float independently and I cant get them to anchor themselves as the next toool bar below the formatting tool bar nor can i get them to anchor themselves to the bottom of the window which is what i did with the background colors and drawing tool bars in versions of Word now the stuff of antiquity -- and the customize tool bar system isn't very helpful, and in this case neither is Google. So therefore heres my question:

How do i get tool bars that float independently to anchor themselves to other tool bars as the next row of buttons down - or the first and then second rows of buttons at the bottom of every window? I find it absolutely impossible to even partially entertain the absurd notion that this is impossible and that Microsoft pro actively decided to make certain tool bars completely impossible to anchor to other areas of the GUI and that i have to deal with the permanence implied when I enable the tool bars under view and they pop up as floating nomads.

Please - give me a clue.

Complex question = Simple answer - You can't.

MS is following Apple interface guidelines in Office 2008 [for the most
part], so although you can customize the toolbar in the document window you
can't add custom toolbars to the window. Any custom toolbars must be docked
beneath the Menu Bar.

Hi SOG (Real names are also good, in here...)

It does defy belief, doesn't it? Sadly, your analysis is exactly correct,
if you are using Office 2008.

The "Standard" and "Formatting" toolbars are not, technically, toolbars any
longer. They are part of the Word UI. They are not floating, and
permanently docked.

The other toolbars, including the ones you make yourself, "are" toolbars,
they are floating, and they don't dock. Microsoft seems to have removed the
ability to dock toolbars from this version.

Sadly, I am not sure this is a "bug". They may have designed it that way.

Send feedback in directly to Microsoft using Help>Send feedback.

Keep it unemotional and business-like, because you are talking to the person
who will decide whether to authorise this to be changed (and it could be
expensive). So tell them what you want, why you want it, and how you intend
to use it.

You just might get it.

Or you can simply tell them what you think of them. But you know what you
will get if you do that :)

Cheers

The only workaround I can suggest, which someone else here did--

Start with the toolbars that *can* be docked (listed in View |
Customize). Customize them like mad--there is no reason you can't put
all the drawing tools on the contact toolbar, which does dock, or add
lots and lots of items to the standard and formatting toolbars. Etc. You
might have to play around a bit to get something you like.

If doing that, be sure to backup your Normal template *frequently* to
preserve all this effort!
