This message has not been sent

The following problem is intermittent and I will appreciate if anybody can
explain why it happens.

Sometimes when I send a message, it remains in the Outbox without being
sent. Other messages that I sent in the same timeframe or after are sent
successfully and moved to the Sent folder. It does not matter if the
messages have attachments. The recipients are people on my Contacts list
that I communicate with often.

I noticed that messages normally appear in italics and have a date/time
stamp – these messages are sent. The messages that fail are not in italic
and do not have a date/time stamp.

If I open the message and click on the Send button, it still fails. If I
type a new message or reply to the original message and copy/paste the text
and/or attachments from the failed message and Send, then it works.

What causes this?

I have deleted the messages that were there today. I will try this over the
next few days and let you know.

As suggested, I moved the message to another folder (Drafts) then opened and
click send. Same result.

However, it usually always works if if create a new message and copy the
contents from the original message then send.

I have checked the vasious causes from the shortcut you suggested, but none
of these caused or resolved the problem - whih I have again experienced this
morning.

Really puzzling!

Did you had any luck finding out what it was? It looks we have exacly the
same problem.

I switched back to XP (from Vista) and the problem has not occured again.

A good rule to follow is the one mentioned by Diane that you should not open
the Outbox folder when it contains unsent items.

I have for sometime experienced a similar problem and have determined that
for no single reason, the default email smtp is not used. In other words,
someone can send an email to my work email address, but when I reply, the
account that gets used sometimes will be my home email address. I am using
Outlook 2007 in Vista Home Premium. Both home and work email are POP3. There
have no sequences where this occurs. I understand when I send an email from
home and someone replies to that and I get it at the office that I need to
change the sending account. Ditto for getting an email from someone to my
home email and receiving at the office.

It is just not consistent and I would like to figure out how to stop that as
sometimes, several emails will sit in the Outbox until I change the account.
