Gates is reported put new Technogy in Office that will be an XUL based
replacement for Adobe Acrobat PDF.

Evidently he is PO'd at Adobe and is gunning for Blood. Its reported he
wants to bankrupt Adobe. (Must have got mad because Adobe bought
MacroMedia).

Is there any prayer that this new technology will be installed within
Office Mac?

Hi Phillip:

Well, I assume you are referring to the various XML capabilities being
discussed for Windows Longhorn, or the various Digital Rights Management
facilities being discussed for Office PC.

I think I can safely say that they may not make it into the "next" version
of Office for the Mac. I think I can also safely say that we "will" get
them, or something similar, soon.

I could also say that Bill's emotional state (with Adobe, or anyone else...)
is unknown to me, but I suspect it is not at all significant. What I think
is far more significant is that Microsoft, Apple and some other companies,
have discovered a better way of doing things.

Given that Apple is in that mix, I would be surprised if we had to wait too
long to get them on the Mac. And I think many of us will be very happy
little puppies when we do :)

Cheers

Supposedly something would be written into Word that allow documents
with formatting and all be save in XUL.

And could be seen and worked on exactly as formated in any
WordProcessor, or Web Browser, that is capable of reading writing to XUL

Hi Phillip:

Yeah, my point is that "XUL" is not the application of XML you would choose
for that purpose.

Extensible User-interface Language (XUL) describes computer user interfaces
in such a way that an application will operate properly on a palm, tablet,
desktop or other device.

The one for passing text is xMl, which describes text and graphics in a
controllable way so information can be exchanged. I'm sure we'll get that
in Mac Office eventually, but it's a bigger job than it is on the PC because
Mac OS does not yet have good native support for XML.

Cheers

what about "Tiger". (was able to install on my PowerBook 17" but not my
G4-500. (Don't have a proper Video Driver file for my ATI Radeon 6000
AGP/DVI Card - can't find one listed either at ATI).

Dunno. Ask Apple.

My information, as of just before Tiger shipped, was "not there yet".
