this object is corrupt or is no longer available

Olivier

Hi,
Until recently I was using Word 2000 to write specifications including many
"microsoft word picture" objects.

I've just switched to Word 2003. Since then I've been facing the following
problem:
Anytime I edit an object I had already created, the object eventually
becomes corrupted: the next times I try to open it, I get the following
message:
"this object is corrupt or is no longer available"
I've even add problems with new objects I created with word 2003, in
existing documents.

I went online: microsoft blames the Norton antivirus. I DO NOT have Norton
antivirus installed on my computer. I use InnoculateIT from Computer
Associates.
I even uninstalled my anti-virus, the problem did not disappear...

I've tried "open and repair": word finds "OLE fields" errors and "fixes"
them. If I then try to open the "fixed objects" I'm asked if I want to
ungroup them. If I select "no" the object does not open and if I select
"yes", the object is totally messed up by word...

Does anyone, or microsoft, have an ideal of what's going on?
Thank you.

Has NAV ever been installed - such as an OEM trial version delivered with
the new computer?

No never. Actually I installed the operating system (XP) myself on my machine.
I'm pretty sure I've never seen anything like NAV in my company.

Would you open Word in Safe Mode and see if you can open one of these
documents. From STart, Run, type in

winword /a

and press OK. Test now.

Thank you for the suggestion.
I tried winword / a, but the problem is still there. :(
I've also found posts online from people who have the same problem.

Are these files all on the local PC or are you running over a network? What
type of network server do you use? Is it patched up to date?

Terry

They are all local. I've installed all the updates for windows XP and for
Office.
I've even un-installed/re-installed the latter. I keep on checking for new
updates in case one would fix my problem.
Also it's possible that the template I intially used for my documents was
actually created before Office 2000 came out, maybe with office 97 then.

Are you saying that this only affects certain documents that were all
created from the same template - a template that may have been created in
Word 97 and documents created from normal.dot or other templates are
unaffected?
