This site is not assigned to an indexer

Robert

Hello,
I'm trying to make a search using the "Enter Search words" box at the top
right corner of the PWA 2007 Home page, and click on the Go Search lens. But
I got the message:
"Your search cannot be completed because this site is not
assigned to an indexer. Contact your administrator..."
So I contacted myself but without any result ;-(
I hope that you have a lot more knowledge than me.
What is an indexer and how to assign a site to an indexer?
Thanks in advance

Robert

I'm assuming you're running WSS and not Sharepoint, let me know otherwise.

If you haven't already done so, then you need to start and configure the
search service within central admin (Operations>services on server)

Once search is up and running, the indexer with crawl for searchable content
and append the items to the index logs.

You can add a web app to a search server by editing the properties of the
content db in central admin (application>content databases), select relevant
content db.

What did I missed?

Robert,

You need to ensure that the Windows SharePoint Services Search is started.
This is different from the help search service which is used for searching
none indexed data.

I think you should check the content database options. This can be found in
Central Administration / application management / content databases. Klick
the name of the database and you will get in the screen with options. Make
sure there is a value selected for 'search server'.

hope this helps.

If that is true for all you web applications, then I'm a little lost. In the
screen with the database name, there is also a select box in the right corner
displaying webapplication. Click the box gives 'change webapplication'. See
for all application what the values are for the Search server settings.

hope this will get you to a solution, because I would not know any other
possible way to fix your problem.
