have used FrontPage for almost three years now. Makes things easy.

I start a new job - they use FrontPage 2003. No problem, right? (OS - XP
Professional)

First thing I notice is I can not "Publish the entire site". I get an error
message that specifically lists this file "_Usage_30012.html" - saying I
don't have permissions. I discovered that this is was the first file
generated from a service that the company I work for had purchased to track
and log stats for the website.
I figured I'd delete that file all altogether, but, it says I need
permissions and I don't have them. My provider says they can't delete them
either.
So, I guess I am stuck in that one.

next thing I notice, is I can not get form to work.

Now, I am absolutely certain FPSE are running, as my hit counter works. I
have another reason to, but more on that later.

When I create and publish the form, then I test it

I get the following error message :Cannot open "we80.cnf": no such file or
folder.
Additionally, check out the URL of the error page -

So, I bring in outside help. They set up a test site on their servers for me
to see if perhaps, FrontPage is not working because my provider has FPSE 200
installed. This new test site has FPSE 2002 Installed.

They do a test form using FP2003, and it works.

Now, I tried opening their test in FP2003 on my computer - does not work.
Says that server is not running FPE, or the web does not exists. We know that
it does because of their tests.

So, I try using an FTP program to publish. Guess what. It works. However,
still can not get MY published forms to work.

I even tried opening the test site from my computer at home, and it WORKED.


Everyone is stumped. Of course, I could delete the entire web and start over
but I am reluctant to do so. I am wondering if, somewhere along the line, and
maybe due to that the person who originally set up the site had never done an
website authoring before and had to learn FP through trial and error, that
somehow, something, was missed or messed up and it is just creating all kinds
of problems.

Or, could it because of that stupid tracking service?

the problem seems to be only on that computer. I use the computer to run all
sorts of other programs, mainly graphic design programs. They all work fine.
I receive and send email just fine through outlook.

I have installed and re-installed FrontPage. From FP2000 to FP 2003!

I realize that this is not as much a problem with FP itself, but I was
hoping that someone else here may have seen this happen before and had any
information or inkling as to why this would happen.

When you look at the remote website through an FTP program, there are all
these files - I mean, it just looks like duplicates upon duplicates. I try to
delete some, but again, no permissions.

I also noticed that there are two index files. Two different extensions. htm
and html
It has been my experience that the index page needs to be html

(I'll delete the htm one, but I doubt that is going to solve anything)

I also noticed that there two complete copies of the htm files/pages.

One is under a file labeled htdocs the other is under the htdocs/_vti_cnf
folder

Since one of the error messages says ":Cannot open "we80.cnf": no such file
or folder. " I am really tempted to just delete that entire folder....

I guess what I am asking, is, if this were your website, what would you do?

I am guessing I should have the provider temporarily host the site on
another domain name (use a redirect from the main domain name) then delete
the entire site, remove FP, re-install it, then start over and see what
happens?

If that doesn't work: I just can't imagine what would be so different about
the computer and how it is configured that it makes FP behave as it has been.

Again, any help, at all, appreciated.

See if you, or the server admins, can convert the folder holding the stats
files into a subweb. If they are in the root of the web, then the website
and server needs to be replaced.

That URL is correct for a site using FP extensions on Unix server.

A form that utilises the FrontPage extensions will *never* work if it
published using FTP. Using FTP may also corrupt the extensions, which may
have to be re-installed.

Which points to a problem with your work PC. You may need to
repair/re-install Internet Explorer, Web Folders and/or FrontPage.

Already did this. I think..I can login into my control panel that my ISP
provides and i can check on or off FPSE. Is this the same, or is it something
my ISP has to do manually?


As for your other tips, I will certainly try re-installing IE. I
ll also re-install FP.....for the third time.

The stats folder is located in the htdocs/ file. That means it is in the
root of the web, yes?

No. I was referring to the stats files themselves. If they are in a
folder, they are not in the web's root. Convert the folder to a subweb -
Open the remote site (on the server) in FrontPage, right-click on the folder
and choose "convert to web".
Do this on the server, and if you have a copy in your local web, convert
that folder to a subweb also.
I can login into my control panel that my ISP
provides and i can check on or off FPSE. Is this the same, or is it
something
my ISP has to do manually?

Using the control panel you can un-install (check off) and then re-install
(check on) the extensions. It is not the same as checking/repairing, but
should be just as effective. If the uninstall is complete the entire web
will have to be republished to get it back into synch, and all subwebs will
have to be redone.

Also try these common maintenance tasks before reinstalling anything:

1) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all FP Temp Files, usually in
(FP2003)

%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\FrontPageTempDir

Also clear your IE Temp files

2) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden *.web files
Usually in %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache

3) Run a Repair on IE (instead of reinstalling)
(see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=318378 )

4) Install all Service Packs for your OS, IE, MS Office and your Video card
(Windows Update and Office Update sites, plus your video card supplier site)

5) Open FP and Disable or Uninstall any FP Addins,

6) Open your FP Web/Site and run a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks
