Please help! I have three computers on our network that have an email
stuck in the Outbox- all running OL 2000, one with WinNt and two with
WinXP, all updated as recently as possible. On shutdown they show the
"not responding" message for ThorConnWndClass. I have tried the
following with no luck:
-creating new OL profile
-delivering mail to new personal folders
-starting OL in safe mode
-starting OL offline
-reinstalling OL
-reinstalling Office to new folder
-run detect and repair
-running regsvr32.exe inetcomm.dll
-rename outcmd.dat (file doesn't exist on these computers)
-opening the affected account on another computer (just screwed up that
computer too)
-turn off antivirus software
-installed new antivirus and scanned with new definitions

We're running SBS 2000 with Exchange server, but only a few computers
are affected. Local exchange addresses work fine, just internet email
won't send or receive. Any other ideas to try before I throw them all
out the window? I can't find anything different in the google groups.

ThorConnWndClass is an entry point in the inetcomm.dll. This DLL is
provided by Outlook Express but shared by Outlook to render
HTML-formatted e-mails. Since inetcomm.dll and hence ThorConnWndClass
is used for handling HTML-formated e-mails, what happens when you
configure Outlook to disable the Preview pane (and maybe use AutoPreview
mode to see the first lines of each mail but as plain text)?

The file may be corrupted or an old version that doesn't provide the
method (function) expected by the calling program. Delete or rename the
inetcomm.dll file in %windir%\system32. Delete the copy of inetcomm.dll
from the %windir%\system32\dllcache folder and run System File Checker
("sfc.exe /scannow"). Because you deleted the file from the DLL cache
folder, you will need the install CD to get it from there.

You could try reinstalling IE (which includes OE) to get the
inetcomm.dll file replaced (updated) since reregistering a corrupted or
out-of-date DLL won't help.

Sometimes the solution seems rather obtuse. One user reported that NOT
using the 'My Pictures SlideShow' screen saver and switching to None (or
Blank) eliminated the problem. Some found that a bad (corrupted) mail
on the server that was attempting to get downloaded caused the error, so
they used the webmail interface to their account to move the mails into
a different folder than the Inbox (which is the mailbox that POP3
supports and the only that gets inspected). Go figure.

You mentioned that the problematic hosts have mail stuck in the Outbox
of Outlook. When you exit Outlook, it checks the Outbox and shows a
warning saying that you have pending outbound messages and asks you what
to do. Do you see that prompt on exiting Outlook? If not, could be the
item is corrupted. You could use OutlookSpy to delete items sitting in
the Outbox (since Outlook doesn't give you the means to get rid of items
that are "hidden" in the Outbox, like mails used to send read receipt
requests).

Thanks for the help... OutlookSpy enabled me to delete the stuck
emails, and then we could receive emails again, but anytime we tried to
send another it immediately got stuck. Replacing the inetconn.dll
didn't do anything for us. I ended up totally uninstalling Office 2000
and renaming the Microsoft Office folder, then installing Office 2003
(except on the computer running WinNT). Now we're up and running again
