Thousands separator

I try to use consequently millimeters in my building plan for wall lengths,
though it reduces the possible font size. I haven't found yet how to
incorporate a thousand separator in order to make it more legible. It is
not a number, but text.
I tried #.##0 In my innocence I tried even to drag the format painter of
Exell to Visio. I looked at the shapesheet. I cannot ungroup any more.

I have found "About format pictures" in the SDK
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms195651.aspx
But, where do I apply this ?

Hello Philippe,

You can use it in the Format function or in a format cell in the Custom
Properties / Shape Data ShapeSheet sections.

For example: "#,###.00 u" will give you a thousands comma separator and to
two decimal places.

Hope that helps.

Best regards

John

Thanks, merci, but it does not work.

I try it very simply. I draw a rectangle, add a property, make it a type
"number" Format "Whole numver". Value 2222
I doubleclick the shape and insert the custom property in it in Format
"General"
I select and open the shapesheet and under section Custom Properties, in
cell Format, I find "0". I change this to "#.###,00 u", but nothing happens.

I don't think I have to use the Format(,) function in the Shapesheet cells.
For a wall the shapesheet format cell is
="1 m;2 m;3 m;4 m;5 m;6 m;7 m;8 m;3 m."

For "width" I tried even
=FORMAT(SQRT((EndX-BeginX)^2+(EndY-BeginY)^2),"#.###,00 u")

I checked my Windows Regional Options. I used to call the thing a triad
separator, but nowadays it is called "Digit grouping symbol"

Here at home on Visio 2007 it is straightforward to do it for a rectangle.
Yet that is a text box without a control point.
Yet for a wall I cannot have it in millimeters any more.
And for a controller dimension it does not work.
