three drawing questions

i find that drawing in word 2007 has improved in some ways and in others has
become a lot worse. Here are two questions and a bug:

1. When drawing straight lines between shapes I am forced to snap to
connector on those shapes. For example, on a rectangle there are 4 such
connectors, one on each side. Is there any way to turn this off? The
mandatory snap makes it impossible to draw a line that would touch the shape
anywhere but in the center of its faces, and makes it impossible to draw two
parallel lines between shapes.

2. When I draw a "elbow connector", there is a yellow diamond on it which
allows me to change the routing. However, this change does not stick and
every time I do anything to the image it goes back to the default, which is
often overlapping with other objects on the drawing. The only way i've found
to overcome it is to group it with something else, in which case rearranging
objects becomes a pain. Is there a fix for this?

3. Why is it that whenever I draw a shape (about 90% of the time), after I
let go of the mouse button it appears about an inch lower than when I drew it
and then I have to move it by hand?

That's not happening, here. I'm using the rectangle and line from the
"AutoShapes" gallery...
2. When I draw a "elbow connector", there is a yellow diamond on it which

This happens whenever the positioning of the connector is changed, otherwise I
don't see it. And I don't know of any way to change that behavior.

I don't see that here. Perhaps a problem with your mouse driver and/or graphics
card driver? Have you tried updating them?
