thumb nail graphic of a Visio diagram (Visio 2007)

I would like to hyperlink to many other Visio diagram within one diagram to
show a high level overview of processes. If someone wanted a more detailed
view of a particular process they could click on the Visio Diagram. I know
how to hyperlink to other file.

My questions is there a way to get a thumb nail graphic of a Visio diagram
so I can use it as a inserted graphic of the different Visio digrams?

Not directly, and nothing automated unless you write some code.
Save the destination page as a graphic image (gif or png) and add that
to your diagram somehow.

Further to Paul's suggestion - save the zip file that is here:

http://tinyurl.com/b5psv8

to your Desktop (of course run your protection software on it first) and
extract the 5 Visio 2002 format files to the Desktop (naturally practice
safe sex ... errr safe computing).

Open "Hyperlinks & Thumbnails.vsd"

Four simple thumbnails are shown - each a hyperlink

Right-click a thumbnail and select the drawing it links to.

Three are simple shapes (circle, rectangle, triangle) while the fourth is an
electrical illustration.

In each case the "drawing" was saved as a transparent *.gif file, then
resized to thumbnail size and resaved.

The hyperlink references are relative, so all five *.vsd files need to be in
the same location (eg Desktop)

I have no idea what that file is, but do you really think it a good
idea to post a URL like this to a cloaked binary file? Even if it's
safe at the moment, it might not be in the future.

Sorry, Paul, not sure what you mean by "cloaked" binary file. I did
describe the zip file as containing 5 Visio 2002 version *.vsd files - of
course one can accept that on face value, or exercise due diligence.

One cannot post large binary files to a NG - indeed one should not post
binary files at all to a text NG.

Linking to a URL is the only option - TinyURL is a common recognised way of
linking to a multi-character address. Further, giving the link gives
readers the option of downloading or not, whereas attaching a binary file
decreases the options available.

You yourself include the link http://www.visio-utilities.sandrila.co.uk/ in
your NG post sig.

Many MS MVPs have web-pages with links to Registry *.reg files, *.exe files,
etc, potentially more worrisome than zip files. Indeed, on your own very
useful web-page, you have a link to download vsu.exe.

If you prefer a multi-character URL, then here it is:

www.geocities.com/pmorales_pedmora/Thumbnails-Hyperlinks/Thumbnails-Hyperlinks.zip

If you (or anyone else) can suggest a "safer" or more practical means of
giving access to binary file examples in response to queries, I'd be
delighted to hear of it.

I suppose I could just give a link to a web-page (as you have) and let
people click on a further link there (as you do), but is that actually any
"safer" than a direct link to a zip file?

Having said all that, I appreciate your frequent presence here, and the
excellent advice you give.

Sorry, Paul, not sure what you mean by "cloaked" binary file.

Hi Pedro, what i mean is that nobody can be sure where a URL like that
is pointing. It might be safe now but who knows for the future. With
sites like tinyurl you arrange to be told where you are being
redirected to first. Just security concerns as it goes directly to a
downloadable file.

That is far better.

Ah! Thanks Paul. I misunderstood you. Hadn't thought of TinyURL
"cloaking"
