thumbnail view is different to open photo

Hi,
I moved a group of photos from one folder to another. Now the thumbnail
displays a different photo to when I open it in XP. And all the file names
have been switched around.
I can solve the thumbnail view by renaming the photo and only adding .jpg,
then thumbnail then displays the correct photo. But the files names are still
all wrong.

How did this happen? As I'd like to tidy up my photo's but no way will I do
it at the moment.
I moved the photos using the XP, MY PICTURES.
