Thumbnail views of slides in the normal view

I have a PC and a MacBook Pro. I just bought Office 2004 for the Mac
for PPT shows I do for my PC clients. I cannot find the same view that
I get on my PC with the full slide and the miniature slides in the
normal view. Is this NOT an option for the Mac? Is this option only
available on the PowerPoint 2003 app on the PC??

The Apple store tells me to use the Mac app called Keynote, but I am
just not sure of the compatibility cross platform.

Any help on this would really be appreciated. Is this option NOT
available for the Mac? Is this only a feature for the PC?

No, you can't customize the left pane in Normal view to show slide
miniatures like you can in the Windows version of PowerPoint. This is a
commonly requested feature in this newsgroup. Be sure to send this feedback
to Microsoft. In PowerPoint, go to Help > Send Feedback on PowerPoint.

That seems to be the case in Mac PPT X; I'd guess it is in 2004 as well.
But if you have a PC and are developing for PC, why take on the added confusion
of cross-platform glitches? PPT is startlingly good at making the jump, but
it's still not perfect.

Either they weren't listening when you mentioned you're doing shows for PC
clients or they're idiots. ;-)

Hi Ellen,

First, thank you for posting to the newsgroup. I hope you enjoy this forum.

PowerPoint for Mac does not have the left frame preview of slides that
PowerPoint 2003 Windows does. I switch to Slide Sorter View and change
the zoom to 100%. I know. It's not the same.

As Mickey pointed out, there's a send feedback feature that you can use
to send your requests, ideas, bug issues, etc. directly to Microsoft.
Microsoft employees sporadically visit the newsgroups, and the MVPs have
a direct line to the Mac BU, so MacBU (the Macintosh Business Unit of
Microsoft) has their fingers on the pulse through a variety of channels.

Keynote compatibility with PowerPoint is not so hot. I know they want to
sell Keynote (it's quite good, actually), but Keynote is not cross
platform, so for you and many others it is a no-go.

However, once you become familiar with Mac PowerPoint you will discover
many great features that are not in the Windows version.

It's interesting that below you mention "many great features that are not in
the windows version." I'm intrigued - all I see is a dreadfully cut down
version that does not properly support the send to word feature of
PowerPoint 2003 and has a pitiful selection of autoshapes compared to
PowerPoint for Windows. In my opinion PowerPoint for Mac is so bad I have to
use PowerPoint for Windows just to get the functionality that should be in
the Mac version.

As a professional trainer, I find the deficiencies in PowerPoint 2004
absolutely appalling and it is the biggest "hole" in the office suite. The
only feature not available to windows is the presenters tools and the save
as a quicktime movie. Whilst these are good, they are nothing compared to
the missing features.

Hi Andy,

Click on a picture. Click the effects button on the picture toolbar.
There's more stuff. Notice there's a different UI. Notice no task pains.

Try using soft shadows on text and objects.
