thumbnails don't display

after installing autocad and an office 2ooo upgrade, my
image files are no longer viewed as thumbnails. instead,
an ugly icon marks their places. how to find the
way/option/preference to restore the thumbnail view? the
thumbnail selection from the view menu is ineffective.
