tickler file

Hello, I have a small business that has grown. I have
been using a manual tickler file system to keep customer
info (name, address, etc.)and to notify them for contract
renewal. This has become cumbersome, as well as timely,
since my number of customers has increased
significantly. I have XP Professional & Office XP
Professional, as well as an older version of Access. I
was wondering how I could create my tickler file on my pc
and which software would be best. Some of my friends
with other companies have purchased expensive software
just for their business, however, I find it difficult to
manage. I wasn't sure if Outlook, Excel, or Access would
be best. I would like the capabilities of printing out
labels and notice postcards for only those clients due on
a particular month (and all of them at Christmas). A
friend mentioned that if I put them in Outlook (task)
that a bell would ring when I turned my computer on as a
reminder. Thank you for your assistance.

Outlook is ideal for the reminder function you have in mind. Also, you can
use the Journal feature to keep up with correspondence you have with your
customers.

Creating a list and mail merging them for Christmas or other events is also
easy using Outlook to start the mail merge to Word.

Without more specific details, this is a good place to start looking. You
can also find lots of help with Outlook on http://www.slipstick.com

I know Access 2002 can print labels. Go into you version
and look under reports, Create in design view, and then
click on "New." You will see a label wizard if it exsist.
Also, Word does labels.

Better yet have you ever concidered Linux. It is open
source. Keeps your cost down. Do a search on "LUG," which
is short for Linux User Groups. You can find out a lot
more this way. Free Databases $$$.
