I was installing Microsoft Office 2003 on this computer (it worked fine on
all the other computers), and about half way I get this error message saying
"Error 1402. Setup cannot open the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\.tif. Verify that you have sufficient
permissions to access the registry or contact Microsoft Product Support
Services (PSS) for assistance. For information how to contact PSS, see
E:\FILES\PFILES\MSOFFICE\OFFICE11\1033\PSS10R.CHM." I retry the installation
a few times and I always come up with the same results. Next, I go to the
registry editor and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\.tif and I set
the permissions to "Full Access" and "Read". I retry the installation one
more time and I still get the error message.
I remember a few months ago I was installing Internet Explorer 7 Beta2 and I
had to edit the .tif registry key because it wasn't allowing me to install it
(I set it to full access and then it worked). Would that have anything to do
with it?
Thanks,
Eric
