TIFF images in word turning black after saving

I am inserting a number of TIFF images into a document, they range from 10 mb
down to 2 mb each. Everything is fine when I'm working on the document so I
save and close the word file. However when I next open it all of the images
are blacked out. The images are not currupt - they open fine in Photshop and
look fine in windows explorer. It doesn't matter whether I embed or link the
images.

Anyone any ideas?
