Time entry for Local Generic resources is creating sync errors

Hi, We are using managed time periods for starters. In one particular
project, local generic resources have been set up. When the Project Manager
tries to enter these resources' time in the Resource Usage view, a message
pops up asking to sync the actuals. If we say "yes" it wipes out all of the
local resource time entries and sets the task back to 0% complete.

any thoughts?

When you use Managed Time Periods, Project Server does not allow PM's to
enter actuals manually in the Microsoft Project plan. The only exception to
this rule is with Milestone tasks. Project Server assumes that all actuals
are entered in PWA timesheets. Therefore, your PM cannot use those local
Generic resources in his/her project. The alternative would be to set up
enterprise resources that are same-named as the local Generic resources but
are actually non-Generic resources. The PM would then need to enter actuals
in the PWA timesheet for each non-Generic resource and submit the actuals to
him/herself. Hope this helps.

Hi Dale,
I'll have to look at this further because we have a number of projects with
this scenario where it seems to be allowing the PM to put in time against the
local generics only.

I am also wondering why anyone would put actuals against a milestone with a
0 day duration that isn't a task? We have had a few people do this by
accident, and it messes up their schedule.

In regard to Milestone tasks, people mark it as 100% complete. I don't
recommend putting Actual Work against a Milestone task. Hope this helps.
