Time entry: users record hours against tasks

How do I set up resources to record their time against my tasks?

Do I need to have them use Microsoft Project for this?

Or can I have them simply log in to the server and record time?

I assigned myself to a task and attempted to record some time against
it on the server, but the only fields I can physically alter are the %
Completed field and the Remaining Work field.
