Time for compacting Outlook 2007 file

I recently realized I should be compacting my large pst files so I started
today. I am compacting a 3.7 GB pst file. It has been 2 hours and it is
still compacting. How long should it take??? I am using Vista 64 bit.

It all depends on the amount of white space in the file.

There's no reason to compact the file manually, under ordinary conditions.
Outlook will perform the compaction automatically from time to time.
