Time off in Admin Projects

We have several departmental administrative projects where people
record their time for various items one of which includes paid time
off. I am wondering if there is a way to link the time off entered in
the admin projects with additional projects that a particular resource
is a part of so that dates can be appropriately adjusted when someone
is not going to be in the office.

Sorry, but what you want is not possible. Nonworking time entered in an
Administrative project does not cause Microsoft Project to automatically
reschedule assigned work around the nonworking time periods. This is the
chief limitation of the use of Administrative projects, and is which we do
not recommend them for entering nonworking time. Instead, the nonworking
time must be entered on each resource's individual calendar in the
Enterprise Resource Pool, and then Project Server will automatically
reschedule project work accordingly. Hope this helps.

Hi Dale,
I have a question in regards to this subject that you may be able to answer.

I have noticed that if you use the "notify your manager about time you are
not available" within the Task Tab, you actually update the "work" within an
Admin Project. If this gets approved and republished, you can see this Admin
project and the approved time in the "view availability" screen of the
resource tab.

Do you think this could be used instead of updating the resource calendar?
Thanks for your help

Nope, that still won't work. If someone wants to use an Administrative
project to track nonworking time, such as vacation, then the technique you
describe is the correct way to submit planned nonworking time for approval.
But after the nonworking time is approved and updated into the
Administrative project, Project Server does NOT automatically reschedule
project work around the nonworking time periods. The only way to accomplish
the automatic rescheduling is to enter the nonworking time on each
resource's calendar in the Enterprise Resource Pool. Thanks for asking.
Hope this helps.
